cré is the Irish word for clay. We're building an open-access ceramics studio for Dublin's Northside.
Why the Northside
A neighbourhood we know
cré is opening on Dublin's Northside because it's where we live and work. Phibsboro, Drumcondra, Marino, East Wall, Glasnevin, Grangegorman: a part of the city that's growing fast, with a community of makers who shouldn't have to cross the city to find a proper studio.
What we're not
Beginners welcome
Plenty of pottery spaces expect you to already know what you're doing. cré is built for the person who's never touched clay as much as the one who's been throwing for years.
Where we're headed
How cré grows from here
Right now, cré is a place to learn. Most people who walk in have never touched clay before, and that's exactly who it's built for. As the studio grows, we want to put more back into it: better glazes, more specialist equipment, and space for people with their own professional practice who need dedicated studio time. Beginners and working artists in the same room isn't a tension, it's the point. Watching someone who's spent years at this raises everyone's work, and that's part of what makes a studio like this last. It's a place to make friends and make art. It's beautiful, honestly.
The founder
"Like a lot of people, I've always been drawn to making things with my hands. With so much of our lives spent on screens, that feels more important than ever. Pottery gives me a chance to switch off and find my flow — clay is my happy place. But I'd always craved a community around it. When I was made redundant from my job in tech, I decided not just to go after another version of that job, but to pursue my dream of creating that place: a studio where others could find their own sense of joy, flow and connection. And the lovely bonus? I get to hang out there too."
